12 Tips for Aspiring Outdoor Writers

SEOPA has been helping communicators and allied industry representatives excel in their professions since 1964.

Organized in May 1964, SEOPA is the nation’s premier regional outdoor communicator’s organization. The organization’s purpose is outlined in its Constitution as follows:

• Promote quality communication of outdoor activities and issues.
• Promote ethical conduct in communication of outdoor activities and issues.
• Promote fellowship among persons engaged in communication of outdoor activities and issues.
• Promote education of members and the general public through communication of outdoor activities and issues.
• Promote interchange of information with other professional communication groups and organizations.

The Benefits of Membership

All members receive membership directory access and at least twelve issues of SEOPA News each year. The database and dozens of back issues of SEOPA News, including a vast array of craft improvement articles, are available to members online. SEOPA provides excellent member-to-member networking opportunities through the website, our annual conference and small junkets throughout the year.

Annual Conference

2022 - The Resort at Glade Springs

Daniels, WV - June 1-3

The annual SEOPA conference is designed to bring all members together to learn and enjoy networking opportunities in a fun, productive atmosphere at a minimal cost. Traditionally, the conference runs Wednesday through Saturday in early October. We usually have a registration mixer in conjunction with round-table discussions or a tourism showcase, and brief meetings on Wednesday followed by a welcoming reception and dinner. Thursday, Friday and Saturday offer helpful seminars, our annual membership meeting, the annual awards banquet, a fun-filled auction, a Breakout Day when media members spend an afternoon outdoors exploring the products and services offered by corporate members, and more. We also offer a “hands-on” shooting event and plenty of time for networking.
